This is seasonal employment during the Saginaw City Public School year under the direction of the Saginaw Police Department to ensure the safety of children going to and from school. All training and equipment will be provided.
Assigned School Crossing Guards have a designated school crossing and work a set schedule each school day.
Substitute School Crossing Guards fill in as needed at various designated school crossings. Substitute status may lead to a regular assignment at a designated school as vacancies occur.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Successfully pass a personal background investigation.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be willing to work 2 to 3 intervals of 20-30 minutes each school day.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Able to deal with traffic and other hazards to ensure the safety of school children.
- Must be responsible and reliable.
School Crossing Guards work outdoors near schools to help children and pedestrians cross streets safely. They typically work part‑time during morning and afternoon school hours, often in all weather conditions. The role requires standing for extended periods, staying alert around traffic, and using safety equipment like stop signs and reflective vests. Strong awareness, communication skills, and a calm, responsible attitude are essential for ensuring safety at school crossings.
