Job OverviewThe Social Work Manager is responsible for managing the oncology social work team.
Qualifications (Required)- Graduation from an accredited graduate school of social work with an MSW (master's in social work) degree.
- State licensure required by the NJ State Board of Social Work Examiners.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in social work in a clinical setting, preferably with oncology patients.
- Minimum of five years of clinical work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
- Three or more years of experience in a hospital setting.
- Ensures the team manages caseloads efficiently and effectively.
- Reviews caseloads to ensure the team applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span.
- Conducts discharge reviews and retrospective reviews as necessary.
- Applies Milliman Care Guidelines and Inter Qual criteria, severity of illness and intensity of service, and level of care changes.
- Collaborates with physician advisor on level of care changes, denials, and communication with other physicians.
- Identifies and addresses inappropriate resource utilization.
- Explains UM process and federal regulations to patient families when issuing letters concerning level of care changes or denials.
- Interfaces with third‑party payers to provide pertinent clinical data and maintain clear communication channels to maximize reimbursement.
- Screens patients in the pre‑admission and admission phases in a timely manner.
- Identifies patient family and system issues through ongoing assessment and addresses them as necessary.
- Assures continuity of care for the social work team.
- Establishes appropriate sources of payment for home care needs and obtains necessary authorizations.
- Anticipates needs for services and equipment in the home and refers appropriately for visiting nurse services, oxygen services, IV services, durable medical equipment, transportation, and other home care needs.
- Effectively allocates and schedules resources, projects staffing needs, and utilizes labor and non‑labor resources to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Adheres to budgetary guidelines, manages budget variances, and implements strategies for desirable outcomes.
- Initiates, individualizes, and implements clinical care protocols based on admitting diagnoses and assessments.
- Supports clinical decision making by using protocols, practice logic, scientific principles, and outcome evidence.
- Works with the social work team to identify and resolve issues.
- Utilizes relevant research findings to select among options for managing patient care issues.
- Contributes to committees, task forces, and quality and cost initiatives as appropriate.
- Upholds American Hospital standards and maintains effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Serves as a resource for regulatory requirements (DOH, TJC, etc.).
- Collects data, documents outcomes, and oversees hospital personnel’s management of patient care outcomes.
- Participates in professional development and provides staff training, orientation, and ongoing education.
- Participates in the development of the patient care delivery system through site visits, presentations, or publications.
