Through skilled nursing care, thoughtful education, collaboration, and advocacy, you'll help create a supportive environment where each child's unique needs guide their plan of care and families remain active partners throughout the rehabilitation journey.

As a Pediatric Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

  • Using the nursing process to assess patient and family healthcare needs and guide safe, effective care
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating pediatric rehabilitation plans based on each child's individualized needs and goals
  • Incorporating pediatric rehabilitation principles and clinical rationale into daily nursing care
  • Providing individualized patient and family education within established hospital and departmental guidelines
  • Partnering with families to help them understand care needs and actively participate in their child's rehabilitation journey
  • Collaborating with physicians, therapists, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote coordinated care and rehabilitation progress
  • Supporting continuity of nursing care and interdisciplinary interventions throughout the patient's inpatient stay
  • Delegating appropriate responsibilities to LPNs and nursing assistants based on patient needs, short-term goals, and team member competencies
  • Recognizing and respecting patient and family rights while providing culturally and religiously sensitive care
  • Guiding and supporting LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students, and new staff as a clinical resource and role model
  • Assuming relief Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed while keeping the Nursing Supervisor informed of significant patient needs or concerns

This role might be for you if:

  • You are passionate about caring for infants and toddlers with rehabilitation and complex healthcare needs
  • You enjoy partnering closely with parents and caregivers and recognize the important role families play in pediatric rehabilitation
  • You bring patience, compassion, and thoughtful clinical judgment to caring for young children with individualized needs
  • You value interdisciplinary teamwork and enjoy collaborating with nursing, therapy, medical, and other rehabilitation professionals
  • You are comfortable using the nursing process to assess needs, establish priorities, and evaluate patient progress
  • You enjoy educating families and helping them build confidence in caring for their child
  • You communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • You are comfortable delegating appropriately and providing guidance to nursing support staff, students, and newer team members
  • You demonstrate accountability, sound problem-solving skills, and a commitment to evaluating your own clinical performance and learning needs
  • You are interested in growing your leadership skills and are comfortable stepping into relief Charge Nurse responsibilities when needed
