Job DescriptionThe Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment is seeking a full‑time Accountant II for our Fiscal Team. We are looking for a candidate who is service driven, customer focused, team oriented, loves to learn, and has a high personal standard of integrity. Under limited supervision, the candidate will perform full‑performance professional accounting work involving a wide variety of accounting and related financial activities.
An interested candidate should be able to apply knowledge of accounting theory/principles to maintain the Energy Loan Program’s financial activities. An interested candidate will also be the point of contact for a majority of the agency’s shared procurement activities.
- Serves as the agency’s lead for procurement activities. Including creating, reviewing, assisting in monitoring, and disbursing from accounting system‑originating/maintained contracts and sub‑awards.
- Follows Energy Program directives related to the Dollar Energy Savings and Loans Program (DESL). Including disbursing, receiving, reconciling and communicating with 3rd parties all financial aspects of the DESL program.
- Analyze, investigate, and resolve accounting differences noted by financial institutions related to the DESL program.
- Create month‑end journal entries, using double entry accounting format.
- Reconcile system‑to‑system funding availability. The agency utilizes the N.E.O. Dollar Energy Savings Loan System and Enterprise One (JD Edwards Accounting System) for loan tracking and disbursement/receipts recording.
- Extract, compile, organize and analyze financial data from vouchers, ledgers, journals and other accounting documents and databases to develop and prepare spreadsheets, reports, statements and other financial documents or files to assist management in analyzing, financial planning, forecasting and decision making.
- Track Department of Administration, Materiel Division changes, updates, and communications. Summarize and communicate the changes and updates that impact the agency as a whole and the accounting team.
- Review accounting transactions for completeness and accuracy; reconcile account discrepancies and independently prepare resolutions to correct discrepancies performing account adjustments and posting to correct business unit and object code as needed.
- Ability to work in designated time frames for duties and assignments.
- Works as part of an accounting team, works semi‑independently of direct supervision.
- Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or related field and experience with accounting/financial management systems OR 2 years’ experience with professional accounting procedures including developing and modifying accounting/financial management systems.
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior participation in a team environment, skilled with business math, flexible and adaptable, problem solving, and can manage multiple priorities. Experience with multiple accounting systems, self‑development, customer service, advanced Excel, and process improvement.
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent transportation.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
