Summary
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in the Audiology & Speech Pathology Service serves as the initial point of contact for units, clinics, and patients. Duties include scheduling appointments, tracking and responding to electronic orders and consults, and managing information in medical records. Requires practical knowledge of computerized data entry, information processing systems, and patient‑care software.

- Customer Service: greet and check in patients, assist with mobile check‑in, gather medical information, refer to appropriate team members, report backlogs and issues, document complaints, resolve problems.
- Receptionist duties: monitor copying/faxing, answer and route phone calls.
- Administrative duties: review recall reminder lists, prepare clinic lists, ensure encounter and return‑to‑clinic orders, review consults, interpret provider orders, complete reports, record meeting minutes, supervise appointments, process transfers, monitor audio care, perform eligibility checks, maintain warehouse supplies.

Competitive salary with regular increases. Paid time off: 37–50 days annually (13–26 days leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays). Parental leave: up to 12 weeks after 12 months of employment. Child‑care subsidy: up to 25% of eligible costs for families below $144,000. Retirement: federal pension (5‑year vesting) and 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution. Insurance: federal health, vision, dental, life, long‑term care.

Qualificationsat least six months clerical, office, customer service, or related administrative work.
one year above high school, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
