Overview
The General Dentistry and Specialty Faculty in the College of Dental Medicine is responsible for teaching all forms of comprehensive general dentistry to pre‑doctoral students. The General Dentistry and Specialty Faculty reports directly to the Vice Dean for Academic and Clinical Education and works in close cooperation with the Office of the Dean to support the School’s programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities- Instruct pre‑doctoral students in simulation laboratory, didactic (classroom/seminar), and clinic environments.
- Apply skills to prepare and teach pre‑clinical General Dentistry.
- Cover pre‑doctoral students in the clinical setting in procedures pertaining to the General Dentistry Clinic Model of the College of Dental Medicine.
- Ensure that students are competent in managing patients requiring all disciplines of dentistry.
- Commit to participating in faculty practice or providing pre‑clinical/clinical instruction as a substitute.
- Participate in emergency call.
- Serve on committees and boards for state/federal government agencies, professional societies, and/or within the school.
- Provide coverage as needed for Community Service Outreach Clinics for clinical teaching and patient care.
- Actively engage in community service with students/residents.
- Commit to conducting basic and/or clinical research, and other scholarly activities that will help qualify for promotion.
- Commit to the Mission and Vision of the College of Dental Medicine, including both a community‑based and a generalist model of dental education.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vice Dean for Academic and Clinical Education and the Dean of the College of Dental Medicine that are essential to College operations.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited institution.
- Private practice experience.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- AEGD, GPR, or specialization training preferred.
- Forensic Fellowship Certification preferred.
- Eligibility for dental licensure in Tennessee.
- No additional preferred qualifications listed.
- Full time or part‑time employment (full and/or part time).
- Physical demands and campus location: LMU Tower.
