Job Summary:The College of Engineering (COE) Dean’s Office at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) — a land grant, Big Ten, and R1 institution — seeks to hire a non-tenure track Professor of Practice at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor in the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program, beginning Fall semester 2026.
The position will be based on the City Campus in Lincoln. While residency on campus is preferred, given the online nature of program delivery, exceptional candidates will be considered for remote employment. The faculty member will be based in an academic unit relevant to their engineering background. Primary reporting will be to the Director of the MEM program, with possible secondary reporting to the academic unit chair.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- be significantly involved in the College's teaching mission,
- teach courses in an asynchronous online format at the graduate level,
- teach a variety of MEM courses on various subjects in the existing and emerging engineering management body of knowledge. Ideally, the candidate will have experience and expertise to teach these subjects: engineering economics, production & operations management, decision making & risk analysis, and strategic management of engineering and technology.
- learn new and emerging technologies and research-based instructional strategies, and integrate them into asynchronous online courses in novel and innovative ways,
- maintain and grow relevant scholarly activities and professional development in suppport of effective teaching in the MEM program.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in a variety of non-class activities that address the College’s teaching mission such as advising, mentoring, and outreach. Responsibilities for the candidates based in Lincoln would include 90% teaching and 10% service, to include networking with industry, involvement with faculty in other departments who may teach courses in the MEM program and fostering interdisciplinary ties with appropriate departments and programs within the university.
If teaching remotely, responsibility is 100% teaching with occasional service to the program.
Key teaching responsibilities include:
- Develop and teach graduate-level courses which meet MEM guidelines and standards with primary focus on application, integrating industry experience with theory and practice.
- Maintain relevance and freshness of course content and assignments through regular review and updates.
- Be fully engaged in the instructional process; create & maintain a positive, inclusive learning experience; remain responsive to communications from students and program staff.
Program Overview
TheMEM is a professional graduate degree for working professionals. This non-thesis, 30-credit-hour program is ranked highly by US News and certified by the American Society for Engineering Management. The MEM is fully online and delivered asynchronously via Canvas, with no residency requirements. Students have STEM degrees and are non-traditional adult learners with average 8 years of relevant industry experience, substantially or fully supported by their employers to finance their education.
