The Head Football Coach at Pius X High School leads the football program in a manner consistent with the school’s Catholic mission. The coach will foster spiritual, academic, and athletic growth, serving as a mentor and role model who demonstrates integrity, faith, and character. This individual will instill a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while emphasizing the development of the whole student‑athlete—mind, body, and spirit.
Key ResponsibilitiesFaith & Character Leadership
- Integrate Catholic values into all aspects of the football program.
- Encourage spiritual growth through team prayers, reflections, and faith‑based activities.
- Model ethical behavior, respect, and integrity on and off the field.
- Mentor student‑athletes in moral decision‑making, community service, and leadership.
- Develop and implement a football program aligned with the school’s mission and values.
- Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches and staff.
- Plan and execute practice schedules, game strategies, and training programs.
- Manage all operational aspects of the program, including equipment, travel, and budgets.
Player Development
- Teach fundamental football skills and advanced strategies.
- Promote physical conditioning, mental preparation, and injury prevention.
- Support student‑athletes’ academic achievement and eligibility.
- Build leadership skills and character development through the lens of Catholic teaching.
Community & School Engagement
- Foster positive relationships with parents, alumni, boosters, and the community.
- Represent Pius X High School at games, conferences, and public events.
- Collaborate with faculty, coaches, and administration to support the overall mission of the school.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to NSAA rules and school policies.
- Maintain a safe practice and competitive environment.
- Report injuries, accidents, or behavioral concerns according to school policy.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience coaching high school football or higher.
- Strong knowledge of football techniques, strategies, and training methods.
- Commitment to Catholic values and the holistic development of students.
- Leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to mentor student‑athletes in faith, academics, and athletics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nebraska teaching certificate and desire to teach at Pius.
- Head coaching experience at the high school level.
- CPR/First Aid/Athletic Trainer certification.
- Experience with fundraising and community engagement.
- Seasonal schedule with practices, games, and team events extending beyond school hours.
- Travel required for away games or tournaments.
- Collaborative environment with faculty, administration, and athletic staff.

Pius X currently has about 1,100 students (co‑ed) enrolled in our 9‑12 Catholic high school. While applicants do not need to be Catholic, we are seeking teachers who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and are willing to share that relationship with students.
