Job Description

Seeking motivated, forward‑thinking candidates who want to make a difference in the lives of youth at YRTC‑Lincoln. DHHS is dedicated to a therapeutic, rehabilitative, and holistic approach to their care, and needs Behavior Technicians to work with the population at YRTC‑Lincoln. These positions will, under general supervision, provide continuous intensive behavioral modification, trauma‑focused interventions, residential care, custody, and supervision of the youth at the 24‑hour state facility in Lincoln, NE.

Candidates should have a passion for working with youth needing a high level of support and stability.

Job Duties
  • Direct care for youth with high acuity using trauma‑focused interventions.
  • De‑escalate verbal and physical aggression with inclusion of behavioral modification strategies.
  • Provide continuous and intensive interventions to encourage skill building of life and communication skills.
  • Direct implementation of continuous and intensive treatment plans and therapeutic activities using positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Monitor and document daily behavior and progress of the youth.
  • Partner with medical providers, including Behavior Support Specialists, to ensure constant follow‑through of specific programming, behavioral modification strategies, and treatment plans.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Related coursework or training in behavioral sciences, counseling and guidance, rehabilitation/treatment services, education, nursing/patient care, delinquency prevention, criminal justice, or related area.
  • Completion of 40 hours of Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training and a competency assessment exam within 120 days of hire.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to become an authorized vehicle driver for the State of Nebraska.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the fields mentioned above.
  • Previous experience working with youth aged 14–19.
Other Requirements

Proficiency in English is required, including the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the language effectively. Ability to obtain medication aide license.

Shift Details

We are hiring for 2nd shift; 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This qualifies for a shift differential of $1–$1.50.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge: behavioral prevention and intervention techniques, adolescent growth and development, individual counseling theory and practice, recreational theory and practice, first aid, basic sanitation and personal hygiene, basic counseling and crisis intervention techniques.

Skill: organizing and prioritizing one’s own work; communicating with staff, management, industry professionals, and family members/guardians; communicating with youth in a way that reinforces feelings of self‑worth; listening to and understanding information received; providing learning experiences to enhance insight and growth of youth; being aware of others’ actions and reactions; persuading others to change their minds or behaviors; bringing others together to reconcile differences.

Ability: learning and applying facility policies, rules and regulations; understanding social and legal issues in child welfare; applying security measures; intervening in crisis situations while maintaining safety of youth and staff; developing and maintaining purposeful relationships with youth; planning, organizing, and participating in recreational or vocational activities; observing, assessing, and documenting adolescent behavior; working in a team setting to implement residential programs and develop individual growth plans.
