Firefighter Trainee

Lincoln Fire & Rescue is looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Firefighters. We welcome applicants who are eager to learn, grow, and build a career in fire and emergency medical services. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to gain hands‑on experience and serve the community.

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Applicants must be at least 19 years old on or before the posted closing date of March 1, 2026.
• Candidates must meet physical requirements as established by the City of Lincoln.
• MUST POSSESS A CURRENT (within the last year of March 1, 2026) IAFF/IAFC CPAT CERTIFICATION.
• Possession of valid driver's license
• MUST POSSESS A CURRENT NEBRASKA STATE OR NATIONAL REGISTRY EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
• Must obtain the following certifications within 120 days of appointment:
  • IFSAC/Pro-Board Firefighter I
  • IFSAC/Pro-Board Firefighter II
  • IFSAC/Pro-Board Hazardous Materials Operations
• National Registry EMT or Nebraska State EMT License.

• Selected candidates must submit to, and successfully pass, a substance abuse test.
• Applicants who successfully meet the requirements will be scheduled for the online written exam on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Detailed test information will be sent by email to qualified applicants after the closing date.
