Job Overview
The Nebraska Department of Justice / Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General (“AAG”) for the Agriculture, Environment, and Natural Resources (AENR) Bureau. The AAG will represent state agencies in state and federal courts on agricultural, environmental, water, and natural resources matters with potential appellate practice.
ResponsibilitiesRepresent state agencies and boards in state and federal courts; develop and present appellate arguments in agricultural, environmental, and water matters; conduct legal research and write opinions, briefs, and memoranda; provide legal counsel to agencies on contracts, APA claims, rule and regulation review, tort claims, property law, and other related matters.
Qualifications- Graduation from an ABA‑accredited law school and admission to practice law in Nebraska, or clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion.
- Excellent legal writing skills and demonstrated work ethic.
- Preferred:
Legal experience in a private law firm or government agency; two or more years of general civil litigation or environmental law experience; experience in motions practice, depositions, trial, and appearance before state or federal courts. - Some travel required; applicant must pass a background check.
