American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) stepdown position requiring stroke care competency and NIHSS certification.

• Stepdown PCU setting in an acute care hospital with 24 beds
• Patient ratios of 1:4-5, with virtual nursing support on day and night shifts
• Common diagnoses include CHF, PNA, sepsis, stroke/TIA, COPD, PE, and AKI
• Unit is designated as the facility's stroke floor
• RNs titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nicardipine, and Dobutamine
• Telemetry monitoring on unit with dedicated monitor tech; RNs read strips
• Nurse aide support available at 1:8 ratio when fully staffed
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support available
• Respiratory equipment used includes high flow, BiPap, and O2 titration
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12-hour day shifts with self-scheduling and one extra shift per 6-week period
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend
• Holidays divided by weekend rotation
• On-call requirement to arrive within 1 hour of being called in
• First to float

• Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) for the state of submission required at time of consideration
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Competency in caring for stroke patients required
• Strong teamwork orientation required
• Driver's license required for consideration

• Provide stepdown-level nursing care to patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and other acute conditions
• 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation on assigned shift
• Pass/fail skills exam administered on Friday during orientation; open book with resources provided, 90% passing score required
• Artificial fingernails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Dress code requires navy scrubs (tops and bottoms)
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
• Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
