SummaryThe Welder Prepper will ensure an organized work environment, and adequate maintenance of equipment and materials. You will guarantee welders have tools and materials, such as grinding disks available, and operate welding machines, grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches, and magnetic drills. You will be familiar with various metals such as galvanized, carbon and stainless steel.
Duties/Responsibilities- Assists Ship fitter/Welders during normal metalworking and welding operations.
- Must be familiar with welding operations and techniques, including fit-up.
- Sets up oxygen/acetylene torch and bottles extension cords for job on a daily basis.
- Lay out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Cuts workpiece, using powered oxy fuel hand torch.
- Operate basic shop machines (belt sander, drill press, band saws).
- Prep material for welding including grinding and descaling.
- Grind weld prep for welders.
- Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
- Segregates and periodically disposes of scrap material into approved collection containers.
- Operates a forklift and crane in accordance with safety standards.
- 1 year working in a manufacturing welding environment
- Need to be able to read a tape measurer
- Need to understand and perform simple math
- Discern minor differences (quality inspection of product)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Accept occasional overtime.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or GED / Experience preferred.
