Woodland Medical Practice is looking to recruit a Medical Receptionist for a permanent post of 18 hours per week. We are a friendly practice with approximately 8000 patients. There are three GP partners, and an experienced nursing and administration team.
There would be the opportunity for flexible working, with the need for occasional cover for holidays and late evening working as part of a rota.
Main duties of the jobThe role encompasses working as part of a close team dealing with patient queries, booking of appointments, raising repeat prescriptions and liaising with the GPs and other ad-hoc duties.
You will have an excellent telephone manner and experience in dealing with the public. You would need to be precise in your work and have good IT knowledge and skills, although training will be available.
A personable outgoing and friendly manner is important for this role.
About usOur Practice consists of seven receptionists, two secretaries and admin staff. We have a total of six GPs, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner and an experienced and established nursing team.
We work in a small close friendly supportive team where team working is essential. We support flexible working requests were possible and encourage development within their roles.

Job summary:
The purpose ofthe role is to:
Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team
Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies
Duties and responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice administration team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time underthe direction of the senior receptionist/practice manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels:
- Openingup/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
- Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
- Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
- Taking messages and passing on information
- Filing andretrieving paperwork
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team memberand associated healthcare agencies and providers
- Providing clerical assistance required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning
- Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and freefrom obstructions and clutter
