SEMH Teaching Assistant - Specialist Alternative Provision (Near Grimsby)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time, long-term

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Provision

This specialist alternative provision supports children aged 4-11 with a range of SEND and SEMH needs
. With 12 pupils currently on roll and a maximum capacity of 30
, the provision maintains a high staff-to-pupil ratio
, ensuring that every child receives tailored support.

A number of pupils require 1:1 assistance
, and staff work within a nurturing, therapeutic and structured environment designed to help children regulate their emotions, re-engage with learning and develop positive relationships.

The Role

We are seeking a resilient, confident and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team. The role involves:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Supporting pupils who may display challenging or physical behaviours
    , including hitting, kicking, spitting or lashing out
  • Using de-escalation techniques and behaviour-regulation strategies
  • Supporting personalised learning and behaviour plans
  • Working collaboratively with a highly skilled, trauma-informed staff team
Essential Requirements
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH or challenging behaviour
  • Experience supporting children with SEND
    , ideally within an AP, PRU or specialist environment
  • Team Teach training
  • An Enhanced DBS
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour support

You do not need to be a qualified Teacher or Teaching Assistant. Experience, resilience and the ability to form positive relationships with pupils are the most important qualities.
