SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist Support, Burton on Trent

Position:
Full-time, Long-term (Term Time Only)

Salary: £90–£95 per day (weekly pay depends upon experience)

Start Date:

Immediate / Next Term

Are you a compassionate, patient individual who believes that every child, regardless of their barriers, deserves an inspiring education? Join our specialist network as an SEN Teaching Assistant and provide the vital support needed to help students with additional needs thrive.

Small Steps, Big Victories:
Impact Where It Matters Most

We are seeking dedicated SEND specialists to work with students across all ages who have a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD). This role is perfect for those who value connection over curriculum and celebrate the unique progress of every learner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support: work 1:1 or in small groups to make learning accessible, using sensory play, visual timetables, and personalised communication tools.
  • Follow and implement EHCP goals, adapting classroom activities to meet the specific sensory and cognitive needs of the student.
  • Utilise alternative communication methods such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, or AAC devices to give every child a voice.
  • Act as a calm, consistent presence; recognise early signs of distress and use sensory breaks or de‑escalation strategies to support the student's wellbeing.
  • Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO, and external therapists to ensure a holistic approach to the child's development and safety.
Professional Growth
  • Gain invaluable experience in a high‑demand field, ideal for those pursuing careers in Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or SEN Teaching.
  • Experience the immense reward of helping a student reach a milestone, whether a social breakthrough, a new communication skill, or an academic achievement.
Essential Requirements
  • Exceptionally patient, with resilience to support students through challenging moments.
  • Relevant experience from a school, care setting, personal experience with family, or volunteering with SEND charities.
  • Team player who can take direction from specialists while using initiative to support the student's daily routine.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain) and be fully dedicated to safeguarding.
