About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Outdoors Water Sports Support Worker to work with children and young people with SEMH needs. This role is focused on using outdoor and water‑based activities to engage learners, build confidence, and support emotional regulation, teamwork, and positive behaviour.

Working within a supportive, structured environment, you will help students access practical, hands‑on learning experiences that promote wellbeing, resilience, and personal development. The role is to start in September, with opportunities across the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the delivery of outdoor and water‑based activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, or team challenges, adapted to meet individual SEMH needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement, emotional regulation, and participation.
  • Provide calm, consistent support to help manage behaviour, support emotional wellbeing, and promote positive choices during activities.
  • Use clear instructions, modelling, encouragement, and structured routines to ensure activities are safe, inclusive, and accessible.
  • Support students in developing confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and resilience through experiential learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, outdoor instructors, and support teams to ensure safeguarding, safety, and individual support plans are followed at all times.
Pre-requisites:
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or emotional needs, ideally in education, outdoor education, youth work, or care settings.
  • A strong interest in outdoor learning and water sports, with a willingness to support or assist in practical activities.
  • Confidence managing behaviour positively and supporting emotional regulation in dynamic, outdoor environments.
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach, with the ability to de‑escalate situations and engage students positively.
  • Relevant training or qualifications in outdoor activities, youth work, education, sports leadership, or health and social care.
