Overview
We are seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor with highways experience to support a live highways infrastructure project in Northamptonshire.
This is a hands-on, site-based interim role for an initial 3-month contract, ideal for someone who is confident operating in live traffic environments, understands highways standards, and can provide practical SHEQ support on a fast-paced project from day one.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day SHEQ support across a live highways project
* Carry out site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations in accordance with highways standards
* Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, company procedures, client requirements, and highways specifications
* Review and advise on RAMS, traffic management plans, and safe systems of work
* Support and lead incident investigations, reporting, and close-out of corrective actions
* Deliver toolbox talks, briefings, and site inductions, including highways-specific safety topics
* Engage with site teams, subcontractors, traffic management crews, and project management
* Maintain accurate SHEQ records, reports, and documentation
Requirements
* Proven experience in a SHEQ / H&S Advisor role on highways projects – essential
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) – essential
* Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and highways safety requirements
* Experience working in live traffic environments
* Confident, proactive site presence with the ability to challenge unsafe behaviours
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
* CSCS Card – essential
Desirable
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate
* Experience on National Highways, local authority, or major highways frameworks
* Temporary Works or Traffic Management knowledge
