Job Summary
The role is designed to support the Dispensary. Training will be offered as required.
Responsibilities- Dispensing acute prescriptions when the GP has authorised.
- Dispensing private prescriptions and collecting charges.
- Ensuring that all prescriptions are signed in a timely way by the GPs and ensuring that no item is dispensed without a signed prescription.
- Preparing items to be dispensed and dispensing items from stock.
- Collect charges when appropriate and process payment following practice Operating Procedures. Check exemptions and ensure documentation is correct.
- Check, sort and count prescriptions for NHS prescription Services for processing by the Senior Dispenser.
- Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription. Whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, check with the authorising doctor.
- Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient regardless of the patient's age.
- Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately processed in the dispensary till and a record kept of all financial transactions.
- Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate and make sure that all forms are bundled in accordance with current PPA guidelines. Include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D and invoices as required by the PPA.
- Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Finance Team.
- Notify Dr Sultan of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PPA so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.
- Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
- Ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
- Ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the Dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
- Respond to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
- Check the fridge daily and ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature. Maintain a temperature control record/logbook according to the Dispensary Storage Protocol.
- Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.
The Ingham Practice provides a full range primary care services to our practice population located in Ingham and the surrounding villages, in a very friendly, modern, spacious and purpose-built premises with excellent facilities.
The Practice offers dispensary services to our Practice population in addition we provide minor surgery services to patients registered in neighbouring practice.
It is essential that candidates have General Practice experience and crucial that they have a good understanding of the challenges of the post.
