Birch Agency is hiring Adaptive Special Education Teachers/Adapted Curriculum EC Teachers for positions in the Lincolnton, NC area. We seek passionate special education teachers to provide specialized instruction to students with significant cognitive disabilities, promoting functional academic and life skills.
Responsibilities- Provide specially designed instruction using the NC Extended Content Standards in literacy, math, science, and functional skills.
- Develop and implement IEPs based on student strengths, needs, and assessment data.
- Deliver instruction using individualized, differentiated, and evidence-based teaching strategies (structured teaching, task analysis, visual supports, AAC, etc.).
- Integrate functional life skills, communication, social/emotional skills, and community readiness into daily instruction.
- Modify general education materials and curriculum to meet student needs.
- Implement alternate assessments, including the NC Extend 1.
- Create a safe, structured, and predictable learning environment.
- Implement positive behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and apply principles of PBIS.
- Collect and analyze behavioral and academic data to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
- Use assistive technology, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and adaptive equipment appropriately.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers (OT, PT, speech, etc.), EC coordinators, and administrators.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and participate in IEP meetings.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, NC Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities, and district procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and service records.
- Participate in professional development required by the district and NC DPI.
- Maintain an understanding of current research and best practices in adaptive and functional skills instruction.
- Supervise paraprofessionals or instructional assistants assigned to the classroom.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
- Valid North Carolina Teaching License in one of the following:
- Exceptional Children:
Adapted Curriculum (88082/88282) - Exceptional Children:
General Curriculum with dual licensure/appropriate add-on
- Exceptional Children:
- Ability to lift, position, or assist students as needed (depending on setting).
- Experience supporting students with significant cognitive disabilities, ASD, intellectual disabilities, or multiple disabilities.
- Experience with adaptive communication systems (AAC), structured teaching, and functional life-skills instruction.
- Experience collaborating with related service providers.
- CPI/NCI certification (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention), or willingness to obtain.
