Summary

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of all batch ingredients, variable data labels, barcodes, and QR codes throughout the cannabis packaging process. This position involves maintaining thorough documentation at each process touchpoint. The QA Tech collaborates with the Packaging Manager and other departments to identify and implement process improvements, investigate quality issues, and ensure that all packaging operations meet the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

The QA Tech acts with the best interest of the client and provides oversight during key custody changes to ensure proper processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Validate batch label details and batch ingredients at each process touchpoint.
  • Ensure the accuracy and compliance of all variable data labels during the shift, verifying that all required information is correctly displayed.
  • Ensure the quality of print for every label printed during the shift.
  • Conduct checks on all barcodes and QR codes to ensure they scan correctly and contain accurate information.
  • Document every validation checkpoint. This documentation follows the batch through the processes and is stored compliantly when the batch ingredients are consumed.
  • Verify that production batches are using the correct ingredients as per batch records.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for label verification, barcode and QR code checks, and ingredient verification processes in collaboration with the Packaging Manager and Director of Production.
  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline verification processes and enhance product quality.
  • Investigate quality issues related to labels, barcodes, QR codes, and ingredient usage, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production and other departments to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
  • Conduct internal audits of labeling, barcode, QR code, and ingredient verification processes to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform moisture testing on milled product signaling when material is ready for production.

Note:

This role does not create labels, correct problems, or resolve issues directly. If a batch issue is discovered, the QA Tech will stop the batch, document the issue, and clearly communicate it to the Packaging Manager for quick resolution.
