Food Safety & Quality Manager (Manufacturing/F&B Experience – Chocolate Factory) – Candy Co LLC, Lindon, UT Job Purpose

The FSQA Manager must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes, and procedures, and microbiology and raw material programs to assess and make appropriate decisions in a fast‑paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the plant's Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs and ensure compliance with company, customer, and government procedures.
  • Develop and direct the food safety team at the plant level.
  • Inspect and audit operations in all phases of quality performance (raw materials, production, packaging, distribution, HACCP, GMPs, etc.).
  • Carry out quality policies, procedures, and directives; provide feedback and required follow‑up to ensure proper corrective action.
  • Guide the plant's SQF certification program.
  • Develop and maintain HACCP plans and train plant personnel on quality programs.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies regarding compliance with local and federal requirements and inspections.
  • Develop and maintain quality systems/programs such as Pest Control, Self‑Inspection, Supplier Management, Safety, Microbial testing, Food Defense, and Allergen Control.
  • Conduct pre‑shipment review, CCPs, validation studies; report on deficiencies for GMPs, HACCP, and SSOPs.
  • Perform microbiological tests on finished products, environmental and direct food contact surfaces.
  • Apply total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes within each department.
  • Direct inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints, implement changes, and write corrective actions.
  • Work with Plant Manager and Sanitation Manager to ensure proper housekeeping and maintenance of facility, equipment, and grounds.
  • Work with vendors to guarantee quality of all purchased products, equipment, and materials meet established quality standards.
  • Lead initiatives to improve product quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Identify potential risks in the production process and develop mitigation strategies to prevent quality issues.
Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes, and procedures; and of microbiology and raw material programs.
  • Strong leadership skills for building and supporting a quality department.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading quality improvement projects in the confectionery industry.
  • Good computer skills, analytical skills, and excellent knowledge of food‑processing equipment.
  • Excellent team development and motivational skills.
  • Knowledge of quality control processes related to the food‑processing industry.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, SSOP, and SOP.
  • Knowledge of USDA and FDA standards.
  • Self‑starter, motivator, goal‑oriented, and strategic thinker.
  • Good organizational and communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Problem‑solving skills; ability to gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; and work well in group problem‑solving situations.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four‑year accredited college or university.
  • Five plus years of quality‑control experience in a food‑manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work any/all shifts as directed.
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary, including holidays and/or weekends.
  • Stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be an avid safety champion and adhere to all safety programs and procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Required non‑slip resistant work shoes.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as directed.
  • Pre‑shift stretch and exercises to be performed.
  • Ability to work on feet 8+ hours at a time.
  • Hair restraint, beard net (if needed), and safety gloves as needed.
  • All required PPE must be worn properly when working with equipment or chemicals that require personal protection.
  • Ability to stand, sit at a desk, walk around the facility, lift and carry up to 50‑lbs unassisted, reach, kneel, crawl, and twist.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates and others using professional etiquette.
