Maintenance Mechanic – Schuff Steel

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will bring expertise in commercial and preventative maintenance, ensuring reliable operation of heavy fabrication equipment. You will perform essential repairs, maintain safety standards (OSHA, EPA, local codes), weld, and operate cranes and hoists. You must be mechanically inclined, quick to learn, and adept at troubleshooting.

Core Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain shop machines and equipment.
  • Analyze problems with various equipment and machines.
  • Recommend cost‑effective solutions.
  • Perform repair and maintenance on motors, controls, hydraulics, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Climb as needed to perform repairs at height without fear.
  • Keep the work area organized and clean.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and PPE requirements.
Education / Training – Work Experience

High school diploma or GED plus 3 to 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses
  • Equipment knowledge and skills: proficiency with various shop hand tools and maintenance repair equipment.
  • Language skills: read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence, including repair orders and documentation of completed tasks and future upgrades.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; apply basic math concepts.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense understanding to in‑depth understanding, carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form, solve problems involving multiple variables in standard and non‑standard situations; learn quickly.
