What we need you to bring.

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Chief Engineer
. Your role leads one of horizon’s largest programs. You will lead and be accountable for the technical activities to develop products, expertise, tools, and methods in for both developmental and certified aircraft. You will work alongside our Technical Program Manager to deliver the program, and you’ll report directly to the Chief Technology Officer of Horizon.

The Chief Engineer is the Technical Authority for the product development with accountability for meeting the Aircraft Specification and performance within the project requirements (time, cost, quality, operability). Direct accountability for Safety and the ability of the design to be certified to meet airworthiness requirements. Accountable for leading the technical decision process at aircraft level. Accountable for ensuring a validated, certifiable, producible, platform throughout the Product Lifecycle (including design, development, manufacture, certification, and in‑service) in line with the Requirements and Quality standards, on‑time and on‑cost.

Responsibilities
  • Accountable for safety, certification, technical specification and performance, technical risk & response
  • Lead the entire design, development, and certification program for the aircraft
  • Discharge of delegated responsibilities from the CTO in their allocated project scope
  • Ensure complete integration of the integrated project teams
  • Act as reviewer and approver of the aircraft design and configuration
  • Make decisions on major product configuration choices based on project inputs and proposals
  • Ensure project teams follow the set design direction and meet the aircraft requirements
  • Act as the design authority for the project, providing advice and independent review throughout the development lifecycle
  • Act as a leader and role model with the engineering team to participate in the definition of the mission, vision, and goals for the department. Plan and lead in the execution of those goals
  • Partnerships:
    Identify and establish strategic partnerships with external organizations, research institutions, and industry experts to leverage expertise, enhance knowledge sharing, and support collaborative research and development efforts
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Remain fully up to speed with regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency

Qualifications and experiences:

Demonstrated experience (10+ years) in a senior engineering or technology leadership role within the aerospace industry and whole aircraft projects. You need to have led teams and projects / programmes to successful completion. You will have full life cycle experience at product level, ideally having been a part of at least 1 aerospace program from conception to production and certification, and you will have familiarity with EVTOL Certification regulations from the TCCA, FAA, and EASA.

Location

This position will be located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. You will be expected to travel to the Company headquarters in Lindsay, Ontario periodically. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
