Department/Unit/Program

Description

The Medical Inpatient Unit is a 40‑bed acute care unit including eight telemetry beds, supported by a patient‑centred multi‑disciplinary team which respects patients' confidentiality, rights, and choices. All patients requiring medical care can be admitted to the medical program. The most common types of patients admitted to the unit are acute coronary syndromes (heart attacks, angina), congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, pneumonia, and those with social challenges.

The ICU is a Basic Level 3 ICU, providing specialised care for critically ill patients requiring advanced monitoring and interventions. The ICU team includes a nurse‑led Critical Care Response Team and Respiratory Therapists, who are integral to the delivery of critical care services. This leadership role combines strategic management of patient flow across the organisation with operational oversight of ICU (including Respiratory Therapy and Critical Care Response Team).
