Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks to fill an Automation Engineer position in the Semiconductor Technologies group with a focus on device and process development for next-generation RF technologies within our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL). ATL is located just outside of Baltimore, MD where we design, manufacture, and test microelectronic products for internal and commercial production, as well as emerging programs.
We have over 21,000 square feet of Class 100 wafer fabrication cleanroom that supports variants of Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, and Silicon Carbide.

Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly.
The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful and multi-talented. A strong understanding of semiconductor technology and microelectronic process engineering is essential.
- Designs and develops circuits used in electronic devices. Responsible for layout and mask design, device evaluation and characterization, test box design, prototype construction and checkout.
- Assist with automation tool selection, recipe development, validation, and maintenance of automation equipment including automated wafer probers and packaged device test handlers.
- Support production sustainment efforts and develop/execute process and equipment improvement projects.
- Collaborate with Test Engineering and Equipment Engineering groups to ensure proper operation of automation tools, meet utilization targets, and develop/maintain process documentation.
- Perform tool qualifications and periodic validation to ensure automation tools meet operational specifications, maintain calibration integrity, and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering in STEM with 2 years of relevant experience;
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering with 0 years of relevant experience. - Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
- Experience with working on automation equipment and/or machinery.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance is required.
