Position Overview
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a multi‑faceted physicist experienced in quantum control experimentation, data analysis, circuit design, or modeling and simulation. The role will develop data acquisition techniques, quantum characterization algorithms, and advanced superconducting integrated circuits.
Location:
Advanced Technology Lab (ATL), Linthicum, Maryland or Annapolis Junction, Maryland. Full‑time on‑site required. Relocation assistance may be available. Travel: 10% of the time.
- Lead complex technical problem solving involving quantum control experiments.
- Analyze test data to develop better analytical models of superconducting quantum systems.
- Develop improved integrated circuits for future superconducting prototype demonstrations.
- Strong interest in quantum control experiments, including superconducting qubit systems.
- Motivation to learn new technologies and technical skills.
- Ability to collaborate in a small group (4–7 people) and work independently.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5 years relevant experience;
Master’s with 3 years;
Master’s enrolled in a PhD program with 1 year; or PhD with 1 year relevant experience. - Experience in a cryogenic lab conducting quantum control experiments.
- Proficiency coding in MATLAB and/or Python.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- Bachelor’s + 5 years or Master’s + 3 years or Master’s in PhD program + 1 year or PhD + 1 year.
- Experience in cryogenic lab; MATLAB/Python; U.S. citizen; clearance.
- PhD + 4 years; or Master’s + 6 years; or Bachelor’s + 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Extensive cryogenic experience; MATLAB/Python; U.S. citizen; clearance.
- PhD with four years of post‑doc or industry experience.
- Expertise in superconducting qubit control methods and experimental protocols.
- Experience designing superconducting qubit circuits and integrated control components.
- Knowledge of qubit interactions with external circuitry and device physics.
- Experience modeling superconducting quantum systems.
- Active U.S. Government security clearance.
Primary Level: $131,500–$197,300 per year. Secondary Level: $164,200–$246,400 per year. Salary offers consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
