- Opportunity for successful candidate to progress to Finance Manager HireIQ are currently working with a successful business in Lisburn to recruit an Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper. This is a varied role supporting operations across both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, offering excellent exposure to multiple areas of finance and the opportunity to work with both GBP and Euro transactions. About the Job Reporting to the wider finance team, the Assistant Accountant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations across both NI and ROI.
The role will cover sales and purchase ledger, payroll, VAT, reconciliations and financial reporting, with a strong focus on maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance across both jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain accurate financial records for both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland operations. Assist with financial reporting and forecasting. Process payroll in line with HMRC and Revenue requirements. Complete bank, credit card and supplier reconciliations. Process invoices, supplier payments and credit notes accurately and on time. Match invoices to purchase orders and resolve discrepancies with suppliers. Prepare and process VAT returns for NI and ROI, including reverse VAT and VAT-exempt transactions.
Maintain and update the Xero accounting system. Manage office and team expenses, ensuring accurate records are maintained. Assist with company asset and fleet administration, including taxation, insurance and fuel expenses. Maintain accurate nominal codes and control accounts. Support period-end procedures and financial controls. Provide general finance and administrative support to the wider team. Previous experience Essential:
Minimum 2 years' experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration or a similar finance role. Part Qualified Accountant/ Qualified Accounting Technician or relevant experience Strong practical experience using Xero. Experience working with both GBP and Euro currencies. Understanding of financial regulations and processes across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Experience across Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Nominal Ledger. Sales Ledger experience including invoice generation, payment reconciliation, client setup and VAT processing.
Purchase Ledger experience including invoice processing, supplier statement reconciliations and credit notes. Nominal Ledger experience including bank reconciliations, VAT returns, supplier payments and wages journals. Good understanding of nominal codes and control accounts. Strong attention to detail, organisation and problem-solving skills. Desirable:
Credit control and statement generation experience. Experience handling supplier queries. Experience preparing journal entries and adjustments and assisting with period-end closures. Payroll experience, including weekly/monthly payroll, expenses and batch payment files. Experience taking accounts through to trial balance.
