We are seeking an energetic and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a leading team working on cutting-edge projects for major clients across the UK water sector—including regional water authorities throughout England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and beyond.
In this role, you'll contribute to transformational programmes that strengthen critical UK infrastructure, with opportunities to support landmark engineering projects both locally and internationally. You'll be part of a diverse, multidisciplinary environment where collaboration is genuinely valued and every voice matters. This position offers hybrid working, with three days per week based in one of our offices located in Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, or Newcastle.
Role
- Leading and coordinating a team of Electrical & ICA engineers delivering technical design work on complex, multidisciplinary projects, ensuring compliance with client and project standards.
- Managing team resources, budgets, and schedules to meet key milestones and programme requirements.
- Leading the production of technical deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies, and Control Network Architecture.
- Providing expert technical input across multi-disciplinary project design packages.
- Working collaboratively with clients, operational teams, project managers, and engineering specialists.
- Mentoring and developing junior colleagues, building the Electrical & ICA capability across both local and wider teams.
- Working independently, applying sound engineering judgement and supporting junior engineers with guidance and oversight.
- Contributing technical expertise to bid proposals and business development initiatives.
- Ensuring work complies with quality assurance processes through thorough review and checking.
- Coordinating with UK and international teams to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Demonstrable experience leading or coordinating Electrical engineering design teams within a consultancy or similar multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong understanding of Electrical design principles with practical experience applying relevant design standards and industry best practices.
- Familiarity with water industry design codes and WIMES is advantageous.
- Experience with HAZOP assessments, lightning protection assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting design, DSEAR and ATEX requirements.
- Proficiency in digital design tools, such as Trimble/Amtech, aligned with national and industry guidance.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal technical oversight.
- Experience in the water sector is advantageous, though experience in industrial and process environments is essential.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly within multi-disciplinary teams.
