About Datum Tool Design
Datum Tool Design has grown and established itself over 25 years to become a specialist in designing and manufacturing high‑precision tooling for the aerospace industry. We provide aerospace tooling packages for a wide range of UK and international customers, and our engineering solutions support some of the most advanced aircraft programmes, delivering innovation and quality.
Role &Key Responsibilities
- 40‑hour standard week (flexible working around core hours). Overtime and occasional travel to customer/supplier visits may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Lead and coordinate the manufacture of projects from release through to delivery within a production/manufacturing environment, ensuring adherence to cost, quality and schedule.
- Review and interpret drawings, CAD models and specifications with attention to GD&T.
- Possess the skills to influence and communicate at all levels, remaining calm under pressure while organising more than one project simultaneously.
- Liaise efficiently with customers, providing project updates, answering technical queries and agreeing resolutions to variances or non‑conformances raised.
- Work closely with in‑house Design, Production & Quality teams to meet customer requirements and follow internal procedures.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and status reports, and effectively communicate project updates at production meetings with management.
- Good communicator with the ability to form and maintain relationships internally and externally.
- Strong analytical, planning and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good time‑management skills.
- Proactively contributes to the team.
- Shows moral courage, openness and honesty in all dealings.
- Self‑motivated and able to work under pressure.
- Positive attitude and open to learning and development.
- Degree in Engineering or HNC/HND (Mechanical, Aerospace or Manufacturing) with associated engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience within a tool design/engineering environment.
- Strong CAD experience, preferably in Catia.
- Good knowledge and understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Computer literate and proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
- Experience specifically in aerospace engineering/manufacture.
- Use of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems.
- Familiarity/experience with manual/CNC machining.
- Familiarity/experience with inspection/Metrology.
- Familiarity/experience with composite manufacturing processes.
Salary will be negotiable depending on relevant experience. The position includes a competitive salary, health insurance and a contributory pension scheme.
