Overview

Fortia Insight is looking for a Director – Energy and Environment Evaluation, to join the team on a full time permanent basis. The role is based at one of our UK offices:
Belfast, Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle.

As Director of Energy and Environment Evaluation, you will work with economists, researchers, data analysts, and policy experts to inform future strategy and investment in energy, climate, biodiversity and related policy areas. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Business Development:
    Create compelling proposals for new work, including technical writing, identifying subject matter experts, and developing budgets.
  • Oversee Evaluation Projects:
    Ensure quality and delivery of complex evaluations by managing the full data cycle—from planning and feasibility to data collection design, analysis and dissemination of findings.
  • Cultivate Excellence and Innovation:
    Mentor junior colleagues and foster a culture of creative problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Manage Team Performance:
    Set objectives, monitor progress, and support professional growth to achieve high performance.
  • Shape Strategy:
    Collaborate to develop and implement the energy and environment team’s strategy and the broader Fortia Insight vision.
  • Provide Thought Leadership:
    Contribute to the team’s expertise and influence on energy and environment policy through research and knowledge sharing.
  • Represent the Organisation:
    Act as an ambassador at industry events and through social media engagement.
Essential Skills for Robust and Innovative Evaluation

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Deep Evaluation Expertise:
    Experience delivering policy and programme evaluations using theory-driven and quasi-experimental methods, with a solid grasp of the underlying technical principles.
  • Analytical Rigor:
    Ability to design and implement robust evaluation frameworks using mixed methods, counterfactual analysis, and innovative data collection strategies.
  • Data Fluency:
    Proficiency with complex datasets related to energy and net zero; experience with primary data collection. Proficiency in R and/or Stata is advantageous.
  • Strategic Communication:
    Strong writing and presentation skills, translating findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences.

    Collaboration:

    Experience managing and inspiring teams and engaging effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Business Acumen:
    Track record of winning work, delivering projects on time and within budget, and contributing to strategic planning.
