About the role:Reporting to the Head of Operations, you willlead and continuously improve health & safety performance across Smiley Monroe.
You will lead the Health & Safety function and be responsible for the continued development of a positive safety cultureacross Smiley Monroe. Working closely with managers and employees across the business, you will drive a positive safety culture, encourage employee involvement and support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safetyand operational performance.
What you'll be doing:Leadership
- Build and maintain a positive health & safety culture through visible leadership, employee engagement and collaboration.
- Coach and support managers and team leaders in fulfilling their health & safety responsibilities.
- Promote employee participation in health & safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide practical support and guidance to managers and team leaders on health & safety matters.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health & safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Company's Health & Safety Management System and ISO 45001 certification.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including fire safety, evacuation procedures and business continuity arrangements.
- Develop, review and communicate health & safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
- Lead the identification, assessment and management of workplace risks.
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Identify root causes and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented effectively.
- Monitor incident trends and recommend improvements to reduce workplace risks.
- Maintain the Health & Safety training matrix, ensuring all training records remain accurate and up to date.
- Deliver health & safety training, toolbox talks and awareness programmes.
- Support onboarding activities through effective health & safety inductions.
- Plan and conduct internal audits, workplace inspections and compliance reviews.
- Coordinate external audits and certification activities.
- Develop and monitor health & safety KPIs and performance measures.
- Prepare management reports highlighting trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects by identifying opportunities to eliminate risk, improve processes and enhance workplace safety performance.
- Work collaboratively with departments across the business to eliminate waste, reduce risk and improve operational effectiveness.
- NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) or an equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
- Strong working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Ability to influence behavioural change and drive a positive safety culture.
- Experience maintaining and improving ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience carrying out accident and incident investigations.
- Experience undertaking risk assessments and developing safe systems of work.
- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively across all levels of the business.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
