The West Yorkshire Victim & Witness Care Unit is now recruiting and looking to appoint four additional Victim and Witness Care officers to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who can demonstrate exceptional customer care skills in a fast‑paced and very busy environment. You will demonstrate work prioritisation and organisation whilst offering victims and witnesses of crime the highest standard of support. You will liaise with the Courts, the Crown Prosecution Service and Police Officers to ensure the efficient exchange of vital information enabling a timely case progression.

Your patience and understanding will be necessary to work in difficult situations such as dealing with witnesses who may be hostile or reluctant to co‑operate. The ideal candidate will have experience of office systems and procedures and a working knowledge of computer packages such as Microsoft Office.

You must be prepared to work flexibly to suit business needs, providing office cover between 8 am and 5 pm, and all successful candidates will be vetted to a management level.

• Research, update and maintain all relevant internal and external computer systems, ensuring effective, accurate and timely service delivery as directed and in accordance with the Victims Code, Witness Charter and Force Policy.
• Act as SPOC to the Victims and Witnesses and between relevant agencies to provide timely and effective exchange of Victim/Witness information and to implement necessary measures of support to enable witness attendance at court.
• Obtain witness availability whilst liaising with internal police staff and other specialist agencies/departments for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service and Court Listings to facilitate effective trial listings.
• Identify potential witness problems at an early stage and provide information, advice and support; undertake responsibility for referral to specialist units and agencies to ensure that standards are met.
• Ensure all victims and witnesses where required are provided with an effective witness warning following a request from the Crown Prosecution Service within agreed timescales.
