Cleansing Operative with Driving Duties (Public Sector)

This role is for a Cleansing Operative with Driving Duties within a local authority. The initial assignment is 3 months, with possible extension.

• Carry out a full range of duties within the general cleansing service to include litter picking, manual sweeping and collection, removal and disposal of litter/dirt/leaves from public places such as roads, pavements and open spaces.
• Carry out a full range of duties within the general refuse collection service to include collection and removal of household and commercial waste, bulky amenity collections, removal of illegal or indiscriminate dumping waste and collection and disposal of dead and fallen animals. Ensure all duties are carried out according to schedules and at appropriate times.
• Assist with completing all necessary paperwork in the correct format and on the correct forms. Notify Cleansing Supervisor of any changes to workload and the reasons.
• Comply with all Company policies and statutory regulations, including Health, Safety and Welfare at work legislation, current road traffic regulations, PPE, clothing and company mobile phones.
• Provide a high level of customer care at all times and give customers relevant information as required.
• Undertake any training identified as necessary to meet the requirements of the post, including first‑aid training if required.
• Carry out a range of driving duties appropriate to the licence held, to include refuse collection vehicles, street cleaning vehicles and general commercial vehicles. Carry out general duties within the cleansing and refuse collection service and any other related duties directed by the Cleansing Supervisor.
• When undertaking driving duties be responsible for vehicles and passengers in accordance with the Company’s Driver's Handbook and be responsible for completion of all relevant checks and paperwork. Supervise up to five cleansing operatives daily to ensure completion of tasks as directed.

• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience, including:
  • On‑road driving of a large vehicle (3.5 – 26 tonnes)
  • Keeping official records
  • Experience in waste collection, street cleaning or a related field
• One year experience as a team leader in a similar role
• Knowledge of waste reception, removal, storage and sorting
• Knowledge of health and safety guidelines
• Knowledge and understanding of route plans and maps, and ability to perform basic calculations
• Full current driving licence (including category
  
  C) valid in the UK
• Valid CPC card
• Basic Access
  
  NI clearance will be required.

Circa £27,186 plus pension and holiday pay.
