Undergrad Student Employee – Math and Writing Tutor – COLA (Mesa)

Position Title: Student Employee – Academic Tutor – Math & Writing
Hours: 10–15 hours per week (flexible schedule)
Location: Mesa Campus
Rate: AZ State minimum wage (federal work study preferred)
Position Summary: Benedictine University at Mesa seeks a part‑time Academic Tutor to provide support in lower‑level math and writing courses. The tutor will work with students individually and in small groups to strengthen foundational skills, improve academic confidence, and promote overall student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tutoring in introductory math (such as pre‑algebra and college algebra) and writing (including composition, grammar, and essay development).
- Hold regular office hours on campus and schedule additional sessions as needed.
- Assist students in developing effective study and learning strategies.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled Benedictine student in good standing.
- Strong proficiency in both mathematics and academic writing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience tutoring at the high school or college level preferred.
Application: Interested candidates should submit a brief letter of interest (1–2 paragraphs), résumé, and one letter of support from any Mesa Campus faculty, staff, or coach to Dr. Julie Cowgill (jcowgill) by Friday, October 31, 5:00 pm. Interviews will be conducted on Monday, November 3rd.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle or, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds, and use a computer screen, phone, and provide customer service. May require bending or sitting for long periods of time.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The following of campus specific guidelines for pandemic protocols is required.
Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University‑specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
