Assistant CAD Operator 1 (Substation)
GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Substation CAD Operator 1 to support Substation projects. This position requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services.
The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red‑lined engineering markups for various substations and/or protection and control engineering projects as well as project support while working under engineering supervision.
Job Duties- Opening, revising, plotting, and saving of drawing CAD files.
- Assist in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
- Knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package.
- Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills as required.
- Ability to learn multiple software platforms including, but not limited to, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Attend project‑specific meetings as required.
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under the pressure of deadlines and unexpected developments.
- Work extended hours or after hours when required.
- Help find ways to improve GAI Engineering CAD Standards.
- Communicate effectively with the project team.
- Able to identify inconsistencies in drawings and communicate these issues of concern to his or her supervisor.
- Able to take and follow verbal instruction.
- 1+ Years of Experience
- Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School.
- Basic 2‑D line work and text edits. Plot and create PDF drawings. Perform red‑line edits.
- Follow basic QA/QC procedures. Assist with general office functions such as printing and folding drawings.
- Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
- No management responsibilities. More independent completion of work assignments.
- Possess basic oral and written communication skills. Interact effectively with other staff. Learn to master and accurately follow instructions from others.
