Position: Assistant CAD Operator 1 (Substation)

Lisle, IL 2300 Cabot Suite 395 Lisle, IL 60532, USA

GAI Consultants is seeking an Assistant Substation CAD Operator 1 to support Substation projects. This position requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services. The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red‑lined engineering markups for various substations and/or protection and control engineering projects as well as project support working under engineering supervision.

Job Duties
  • Opening, revising, plotting, and saving of drawing CAD files.
  • Assist in compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
  • Knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package.
  • Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills as required.
  • Ability to learn multiple software platforms including, but not limited to, AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Attend project‑specific meetings as required.
  • Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines and unexpected developments.
  • Ability to work extended hours or after hours when required.
  • Learning and helping to find ways to improve GAI Engineering CAD Standards.
  • Effective communication with the project team.
General Characteristics
  • Able to identify inconsistencies in drawings and communicate these issues of concern to his or her supervisor.
  • Able to take and follow verbal instruction.
Minimum Years of Experience
  • 1+ Years of Experience.
Education
  • Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Basic 2‑D line work and text edits. Plot and create PDF drawings. Perform red‑line edits. Follows basic QA/QC procedures. Assist with general office function such as printing and folding drawings.
Project and Task Management
  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence to deadlines and scope.
Management Responsibility
  • No Management responsibilities.
  • More independent completion of work assignments.
Communication Skills
  • Possess basic oral and written communication skills. Interacts effectively with other staff. Learns to master and accurately follow instructions from others.
