The Supervisor, Infusion Pharmacy, is a working supervisor responsible for directing and coordinating the daily operations of all Infusion Pharmacy staff. This role participates in patient care, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, manages staff performance, and supports departmental budget goals. The supervisor assists with hiring, employee relations, mentoring, and recruitment; minimizes patient delays; reviews departmental performance metrics; and resolves patient and provider concerns.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise daily operations and staff performance to ensure efficiency and accuracy in pharmacy functions.
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and timely responses to time‑off requests.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and feedback to staff; address performance or behavioral concerns promptly.
- Participate in the selection, interviewing, and training of new employees.
- Enter, verify, and dispense medication and IV solutions accurately and on time, ensuring appropriate quantities and compatibility based on patient‑specific needs.
- Oversee pharmacy technician workflow and perform final medication checks as required.
- Manage inventory control, purchasing, receiving, and stocking of medications and supplies.
- Support cost‑effective drug therapy and perform cost‑benefit analyses to identify therapeutic alternatives.
- Maintain a consistent focus on patient experience and satisfaction in all pharmacy functions.
- Foster a positive, team‑oriented work environment focused on collaboration and professional development.
- Mentor and coach staff to promote continuous skill enhancement and career progression.
- Actively participate in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement evidence‑based medication guidelines, monitoring programs, and clinical protocols.
- Identify and recommend process improvements that enhance operational efficiency, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice, including USP and standards.
- Validate chemotherapy protocols and therapy plans within the EMR; maintain required oncology competencies.
- Apply quality improvement principles in all activities, including data collection, documentation, and reporting.
- Develop and monitor drug use evaluations, medication use indicators, and disease‑based evaluations.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure adherence to clean room policies and procedures and proper handling of hazardous medications.
- Serve as a therapeutic consultant and drug information specialist to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, other healthcare providers, and patients.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize medication therapy and improve patient outcomes.
- Conduct educational in‑services and provide drug education for staff, patients, and families.
- Address and resolve patient and physician complaints in a timely, professional manner.
- Participate in multidisciplinary performance reviews and contribute to integrated care planning.
Minimum Education and Experience – License/Certification
- Current Illinois State Pharmacy License (required) with no restrictions.
