job summary

the accountant i is responsible for performing professional accounting and financial tasks within a department. This position involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies. The accountant i will work closely with other financial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the agency’s financial operations.

primary responsibilities
  • prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
  • assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with state regulations and policies.
  • reconcile accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • prepare journal entries and ensure all entries are properly documented and in compliance with state accounting standards.
  • process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
knowledge and skills
  • familiarity with governmental accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
  • proficient in accounting software (e.g., peoplesoft, quickbooks, microsoft excel) and standard office applications.
  • skilled in preparing and presenting financial statements, budgets, and reports.
  • understanding of state and federal financial regulations and accounting standards.
minimum qualifications
  • a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
