the accountant i is responsible for performing professional accounting and financial tasks within a department. This position involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies. The accountant i will work closely with other financial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the agency’s financial operations.
primary responsibilities- prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
- assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with state regulations and policies.
- reconcile accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
- prepare journal entries and ensure all entries are properly documented and in compliance with state accounting standards.
- process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- familiarity with governmental accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
- proficient in accounting software (e.g., peoplesoft, quickbooks, microsoft excel) and standard office applications.
- skilled in preparing and presenting financial statements, budgets, and reports.
- understanding of state and federal financial regulations and accounting standards.
- a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

preferred qualifications- knowledge of federal grant management, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and fiscal control practices.
- loan servicing experience.
- ability to complete complex assignments on tight deadlines.
- experience with state budgetary and accounting practices and procedures.
