Job Summary

The Department of Computer Science seeks qualified graduate students for Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) positions. GTAs support course instruction; GRAs support research and creative activities under graduate faculty supervision.

Responsibilities TA's
  • Attend class sessions.
  • Serve as an assistant in laboratory activities.
  • Lead a class activity such as a discussion group or demonstration.
  • Tutor students.
  • Hold office hours and respond to email questions from students.
  • Proctor examinations.
  • Grade tests, assignments, and projects.
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of instructional materials.
RA's
  • Prepare reports and articles for publication as directed by graduate faculty.
  • Perform tasks and assist graduate faculty in research activities for a designated project.
  • Develop work plans in accordance with research objectives.
  • Conduct independent research specific to the research project.
  • Perform development work for the project, including software development, database design and implementation, and application of machine learning models.
  • Conduct testing, implementation, and evaluation of project deliverables.
  • Coordinate project meetings and lead project discussions.
  • Assist in other specialized administrative, technical, or editorial duties related to the project.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of research and issues pertaining to the area of research.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and coordinating activities.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Qualifications Required

Education and/or Experience
  • Currently admitted to one of the following graduate programs at UALR: MS in Computer Science, CIS Ph.D. – Computer Science Track, or a closely related field.
  • 3.00 cumulative GPA for all UALR graduate credit courses.
  • Must enroll at least 9 hours during each fall and spring semester during a full GA appointment (20 hours per week) or 6 hours during half GA appointment (10 hours per week).
Preferred

Education and/or Experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Programming experience in C++, Python, Java, or C#.
  • Front‑end web design and development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience with web and mobile application technologies (Android Studio, Xcode, Swift, React, JQuery, Bootstrap, Node.js).
  • Database design and development (SQL, connection management, transaction management).
  • Software engineering methodologies and full SDLC knowledge.
  • IT infrastructure knowledge (hardware, operating systems, networks, cloud computing).
