Job DescriptionThe University of Arkansas Grantham is looking for remote part‑time faculty to teach online courses with an approximate maximum load of 70 students at a given time. Courses are eight weeks in length and use the Blackboard Learning Management System. Each course week runs Wednesday through Tuesday midnight of the following week. Faculty receive course access one week before the start date and report to the Faculty Manager.
Key Job Responsibilities- Follow all University policies as provided in the University Catalog and Faculty Handbook.
- Provide instruction in accordance with the University and within the scope of departmentally-defined courses, programs of study and degrees.
- Maintain timely interaction with students and provide quality assessment with substantive feedback.
- Offer weekly office hours and communicate via email, posting, live‑chat, etc. in a timely manner about student concerns.
- Participate in shared governance of curriculum, including curriculum development when applicable.
- Attend training on necessary technologies to facilitate courses.
- Keep current in the field of study and continue professional development in content, methodologies and distance‑learning strategies.
- Make independent decisions with exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Maintain accurate electronic records for the learning management system and university records system.
- Participate actively in faculty development opportunities (internal and external).
- Provide feedback concerning student and faculty issues.
- Create a positive growth environment using the philosophy and objectives of University of Arkansas Grantham.
- Proactively engage students in forums, recorded videos and other instructional activities.
- Notify the appropriate University administrator of any course or administrative issues in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Part‑time faculty teaching undergraduate courses must hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Prospective graduate teaching faculty must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Relevant certifications required, if applicable.
- Five years of professional experience.
- Enroll in and complete the Faculty Orientation Training Course.
- Online teaching experience preferred.
- All degrees must be conferred by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA.
- A student‑centered instructional philosophy is required.
- Curriculum development experience a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internet use.
- Knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System preferred.
- Effective decision‑making and independent work with analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with technicians and faculty.
- Knowledge of distance learning educational models required.
- Able to gather, analyze, evaluate and integrate information electronically.
- In‑depth knowledge of distance learning educational models, adult learning styles and technology‑assisted instruction.
- In‑depth knowledge of developing curriculum design required.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required.
- High‑speed internet and a webcam required.
- Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- A flexible work schedule required.
- Able to multi‑task and maintain attention to detail and timeliness.
- Able to work in a positive team‑oriented manner with students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors and members of the general public.
