Position Overview

The MRI Technologist at Ortho Arkansas plays a vital role in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging while ensuring smooth patient flow and exceptional patient care. Operating MRI equipment as per physician orders and established protocols, the technologist ensures accurate, timely imaging for diagnostic purposes. This position requires a compassionate approach to patient care, technical proficiency, and the ability to maintain organized and clean work spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Imaging and Patient Care
    • Competently perform MRI scans as requested by physicians and radiologists, ensuring accurate results.
    • Administer contrast injections when required and position patients correctly to ensure optimal imaging.
    • Address patient concerns and ensure they are comfortable and calm during scans.
    • Transfer images to the reading radiology group for diagnostic review.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance
    • Conduct daily and weekly quality assurance (QA) checks on MRI equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
    • Report any issues with imaging equipment promptly and follow through with necessary service or maintenance.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of imaging rooms and equipment to adhere to safety and infection control standards.
  • Patient Assistance and Support
    • Provide compassionate and high-quality patient care, assisting patients as needed before, during, and after MRI procedures.
    • Ensure effective communication with patients, explaining the scan process and addressing any concerns they may have.
  • Compliance and Collaboration
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory standards, including the proper handling of contrast media.
    • Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure smooth patient flow and timely imaging results.
    • Perform any additional duties as assigned to support overall department functionality.
  • Qualifications
    • Education and Experience:
      • High school diploma required.
      • Associate’s degree or higher in Radiologic Technology or a related field from an accredited program.
      • 0 to 6 months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Skills and Abilities:
      • Proficiency in MRI imaging software for acquiring and processing images.
      • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for managing patient data.
      • Basic understanding of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) for accessing medical images.
      • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with patients and staff.
    Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • ARRT certification.
    • MRI registry must be obtained within one year of the hire date.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • MRI certification by ARRT (preferred).
    Software Skills
    • Proficiency in MRI imaging software.
    • Experience with EHR systems and PACS.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
    • Basic knowledge of medical billing and safety/compliance software.
