Pharmacy Technician IV – Specialty Pharmacy Operations

Summary of

Job Duties

The Pharmacy Technician IV works under the supervision of the pharmacist and assists with the preparation, delivery, and shipping of medication. Performs tasks within regulations set forth by state, federal, and accreditation bodies. The technician will provide excellent pharmacy services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in pharmaceutical sciences OR high school graduation plus 4 years of pharmacy technician experience
  • Eligible for licensure or licensed pharmacy technician by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
  • PTCB National Certification
  • One year of ASHP/ACPE‑accredited technician training, or certificate program (e.g., PTCB Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician, ASHP Sterile Compounding Certificate)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 2+ years of UAMS pharmacy experience
Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes order of filling (waiting, pick up, same‑day shipment, next‑day shipment) to meet patient needs and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Labels all prescription bottles accurately and with appropriate auxiliary labels; ensures paperwork is included.
  • Accurately fills orders, improving metrics surrounding errors while processing prescriptions.
  • Documents information during the filling process to meet UAMS Policies and Procedures and accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC).
  • Follows UAMS policies related to medication processing and filling, including HIPAA laws.
  • Handles hazardous drugs properly; maintains cleaning logs for supplies used in specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Communicates with specialty pharmacy staff to ensure seamless pharmacologic care for specialty patients.
  • Participates in scanning of proof of deliveries upon return to the pharmacy.
  • Trains others in processes; demonstrates proficiency of all technician roles in specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Uses necessary software, addresses shipping issues expeditiously, processes prescriptions for shipment, prints labels.
  • Orders shipping supplies, completes inventory review for shipping supplies, packs cold chain and room‑temperature products ensuring stability and protection from damage during transit.
  • Runs biannual, seasonal testing on packages for accreditation requirements.
  • Evaluates and submits shipping claims and billing exceptions to shipping companies.
  • Monitors medication supply, alerts the buyer to deficiencies, proactively addresses supply for next‑day shipping, performs inventory counts and reviews.
  • Manages inventory procedures, ensures completion of tasks by responsible parties, adjusts ordering point levels as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
