Position

Summary

The primary responsibility is to collect and analyze or to oversee the collection and analysis of multiple types of recordings and measurements of the electrical activity of the central and/or peripheral nervous system.

The IOM Technologist provides monitoring data effective in localizing anatomical structures and nervous system tissues, including sensorimotor cortex, mapping techniques, peripheral nerves, and non-tumor tissue. The Surgical Neurophysiologists responsibilities extend to review and appropriate application of current developments in neurophysiological monitoring techniques and standards of practice.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Application of knowledge in neuro-anesthesia and its effect on neuromonitoring.
  • Application of knowledge in anatomy and neurophysiology relative to the monitoring being performed.
  • Knowledge and application of current practices in neuromonitoring. (Maintained through extensive reading of published literature and practice standards.)
  • Performance of all duties and responsibilities required for multi-modality monitoring.
  • Maintenance of continuing education requirements by ABRET and Company.
  • Knowledge and practice of electrical safety relevant to equipment and type of monitoring performed.
  • Establishment of practice policies and protocols consistent with current standards of care established by professional healthcare organizations and appropriate regulatory bodies and government.
  • Assessment of intraoperative procedure relative to orders for monitoring, acting to address deviation from established practice protocols.
  • Performance of duties according to established lab protocols for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current standards of care established by professional allied health organizations and appropriate regulatory bodies and government.
  • Reviews current literature, as appropriate for modalities of monitoring performed, and integrates relevant findings into current practices.
  • Establishes and maintains quality control methods for all monitoring performed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree with a preference for health care or science majors
  • Certified EEG or EP technologist with 2+ years of clinical experience
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Reaching including above/below shoulder height
Work Conditions
  • The position is operating room based
  • Work may require domestic travel up to 50% of the time in job
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform work based on customer/third-party standards
  • Work conditions are normal for an operating room environment
