Summary of

Job Duties

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering, simulating and recording radiation treatment set-ups to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Operations Director, responsible for radiation therapy procedures, dose calculations, chart, and routine consistency checks on the treatment machine and simulator during a treatment day, five days a week. Incumbent is subject to overtime and call back as required by the center.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in radiation therapy PLUS two (2) years of experience in a healthcare environment OR Bachelor's degree in radiation therapy
  • Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a radiation therapist with an accredited program of radiation therapy technology PLUS Current Licensure as a Radiation Therapist with the Arkansas Department of Health.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Positions patients for treatment with accuracy and administers doses of radiation to specific body parts using radiation therapy equipment according to physician's prescription and established practices and standards.
  • Monitors radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation and follows principles of radiation protection to ensure safety for patient, self, and others.
  • Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and files, including radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient's reaction.
  • Conducts treatment sessions independently, in accordance with long term treatment plan and under the general direction of patient's physician.
  • Inputs data into computer and sets controls to operate and adjust equipment or regulate dosage.
  • Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to physician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
