Job SummaryThe Material Handler is responsible for ensuring each plastic injection molding machine has the primary raw and WIP (work‑in‑progress) materials required to run according to the production schedule. The Material Handlers are also responsible for taking finished goods to and from the manufacturing area. They must be able to work under pressure, communicate with the team proficiently, and uphold a 5S standard in the manufacturing area.
This is a Safety Sensitive position.
- Uses production schedules to identify, verify, and transport requested raw materials, equipment, or processing materials to designated locations.
- Move materials to/from storage to designated areas using a forklift within the production facility to maintain acceptable material levels at machine hoppers and unload rail cars of raw materials to appropriate silos.
- Prioritize tasks & work on multiple projects at any time while maintaining cleanliness & general appearance of storage and manufacturing areas using 5S.
- Uses protective materials and strapping equipment to protect & secure loads; once delivered, removes strapping & wrapping, then safely disposes of waste materials in designated containers or areas.
- Maintain control of material & colorant levels to ensure all equipment is ready & available to run & perform material & colorant change‑overs as dictated by the production schedule. Consolidate colorant to eliminate waste & ensure proper disposal.
- Inspect material & equipment for possible deficiencies to ensure products are consistent & adhere to the HMS Quality Standards.
- Maintain forklift checkout sheets and report equipment issues to supervisor.
- Perform daily LDR (let‑down ratio) audits to ensure all machines are running with the appropriate colorant ratio & report any issues.
- Maintain & demonstrate knowledge of safe operating practices including the wearing of the proper PPE.
- For changeovers, certify that presses have been supplied as required and that all materials from the previous jobs have been removed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school Diploma or GED.
- Ability to operate a forklift, preferably experience on a stand‑up forklift.
- Must be detail oriented, logical, and take a methodological approach to problem solving.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have mechanical aptitude with basic math skills to include knowledge of ratios and calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Facilities are climate controlled but may be exposed to hot and humid conditions during warm months.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and sit, stand, and move about the facility for extended periods of time.
