The Registered Nurse provides patient care to assigned patients in the H8 Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (NPCU), a 30‑bed unit specializing in neurological and neurosurgical diagnoses. The NPCU is part of UAMS’ Critical Care Division and works closely with the Neurocritical Care area. UAMS is a Comprehensive Stroke Certified Center, Level 4 Epilepsy Center, and recipient of the 2022 Cranial Neurosurgery Excellence Award.

- Pre and post‑op care for procedures, including craniotomy, spinal decompression, deep brain stimulation (DBS), surgical EEG, and care of TBI
- Neurological care for stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, ALS & neuromuscular disease
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate, Diploma, BSN or MSN)
- Valid RN license
- One year of registered nursing experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Strong work ethics and accountability
- National certification (e.g., SCRN, CNRN)
- BSN or MSN degree
- Two or more years of nursing experience
- Minimum one year in an acute care setting such as a teaching hospital
- Cardiac experience a plus
- Collects and documents assessment data
- Develops a Plan of Care (POC) per standard
- Implements POC including medical orders and interdisciplinary approach
- Evaluates patient progress toward desired outcomes
- Provides effective patient/family education and discharge planning
- Administers medication per standard and provides drug information to patients/families
- Acts as a resource/supports others; delivers patient care using the principles of the defined nursing modality
- Delegates care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, job description and individual education and training levels
- Contributes to a positive work environment conducive to clinical education while serving as a resource for student nurses and staff
- Other duties as assigned
- Must be able to don PPE including N95 masks, PAPR or CAPR
