Join the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as a Registered Nurse in the ICU/Trauma Progressive Care Unit (F4). The F4 unit is a 30‑bed blended ICU and intermediate care unit focused on trauma and acute care surgery, caring for patients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, blunt, penetrating, orthopedic trauma, geriatric falls, and post‑abdominal surgery or long‑term mechanical ventilation patients.

Summary of

Job Duties

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to assigned patients in the ICU/Trauma Progressive Care Unit (F4). F4 is a 30‑bed blended ICU and intermediate care unit providing care for a wide variety of patient populations, primarily focused on trauma and acute care surgery. Common diagnoses include traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, blunt, penetrating, and orthopedic trauma, as well as geriatric falls.

Care is also provided for surgical patients following abdominal surgeries and patients requiring long‑term mechanical ventilation. Education is provided to staff that includes the basic critical care course, dysrhythmia course, advanced cardiac life support certification, and trauma nursing core certification.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associate’s Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor’s in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing.
  • Valid RN License.
  • One (1) year Registered Nursing experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • National Certification.
  • BSN or MSN.
  • Two or more years of nursing experience.
  • A minimum of one year in an acute care setting such as a teaching hospital.
  • Cardiac experience.
Responsibilities
  • Collects and documents assessment data.
  • Develops a Plan of Care (POC) per standard.
  • Implements POC including medical orders and interdisciplinary approach.
  • Evaluates the progress of patient toward attainment of desired outcomes.
  • Provides effective patient/family education/discharge planning.
  • Administers medication per standard including drug information to patients/families.
  • Acts as a resource/support for others; delivers patient care using the principles of the defined nursing modality.
  • Delegates care based on UAMS standards, legal and regulatory requirements, specific job description and individual level of education and training.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment that is conducive to clinical education while serving as a resource for student nurses and staff.

Physical Environment
