Job Duties

Schedule:

PRN, As Needed Basis. Shifts vary and are equivalent to 24 hours on a regularly scheduled basis monthly. The 24 hours typically consists of 2‑12 hour or 3‑8 hour shifts, but can change based on unit or clinic needs. This posting will fill multiple positions.

Registered Nurse Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse must coordinate care, triage patients, and collaborate with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. The RN will facilitate appointments, coordinate transitions of care, provide patient education on complex conditions, and develop and implement individual health plans within ICU, Medical/Surgical, and Oncology units.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to assigned patients within the Adult ICU's, Medical/Surgical, and Oncology units.
  • Provide triage, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and patient education, either by telephone or within the UAMS Clinic.
  • Deliver nursing care according to standards defined by UAMS, American Nurses Association (ANA), Arkansas State Board of Nursing, and specialty organizations.
  • Help develop patients’ Plan of Care per clinic standards utilizing assessment data.
  • Evaluate the progress of patients toward attainment of desired outcomes.
  • Administer medication following clinic standards and the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Verify and evaluate care delivered to ensure consistency with standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate care and follow‑up for patients who receive care in inpatient and outpatient facilities.
  • Coordinate patients’ prescription refill requests and patient education in collaboration with physician staff.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelor’s in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing.
  • Valid RN license.
  • One (1) year patient‑care experience similar to or related to the position applied for.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Specialty areas (e.g., Intensive Care, F4 Surgical Trauma) required to pass a pre‑screening test with a minimum score of 80%.
  • Chemotherapy certification may be required for Oncology units.
  • Work one major holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year) and one additional holiday, plus two weekend shifts.
  • PRN staff are limited to 1,000 hours in a 12‑month rolling year, including education hours.
Preferred
  • Two (2) or more years of RN experience.
