Summary ofJob Duties
The Safety and Security Officer reports directly to the Supervisor of Safety and Security. This position is responsible for customer service, service recovery, security screening, weapon detection, and video surveillance systems monitoring. The Safety Security Officer will monitor for safety issues while on foot patrol, respond to alarms, and assist visitors and patients with guidance and requests. The officer may also support Safety and Security Ambassadors’ assignments as needed.
- Performs safety screenings at the metal detector in the ED and weapon detection systems at various locations at entrances of UAMS.
- Monitors weapon detection equipment and the flow of visitors, patients, and staff at monitored areas.
- Patrols on foot inside buildings, performing property checks on secure and high‑risk areas, maintaining a visible security presence.
- Assists with monitoring camera systems for safety and security concerns and reports suspicious activity to UAMS Police Department.
- Fills in at the Information Desk during evening hours.
- Escorts employees and campus members to desired locations; escorts patients from the Outpatient Clinics (OPC) holding area to appointments.
- Responds to alarms as needed.
- Unlocks buildings and offices on request.
